Charrette Studio, a leading interior design firm based in Bangkok, Thailand, has earned Best Luxury Café Interior Design for their exceptional work on Préf, a café nestled in the heart of Bangkok. This recognition highlights Charrette Studio’s commitment to crafting spaces that seamlessly blend elegance, functionality, and sustainability while honoring the rich cultural heritage of their projects. 

Founded by the visionary duo of Mr. Voravich Rajadhananti and Ms. Sukwasa Preeyachot, and expertly guided by directors Ms. Dollaporn Pongsumran and Mr. Natapon Komnuan, Charrette Studio has established itself as a trailblazer in innovative design across Asia. Their latest achievement with Préf, a renovation that intricately weaves together history and modernity, showcases the studio’s unparalleled ability to harmonize the past with the present. 

Préf, situated in Bangkok’s historic Sathorn district, occupies a meticulously renovated two-story house dating back to the early 20th century, originally constructed during the reign of King Rama V. This iconic building, once a hub for the Free Thai Movement during World War II, carries profound historical significance. Charrette Studio embraced the challenge of preserving this heritage while breathing new life into the space. The renovation, spanning from June 2022 to August 2023, saw the removal of the second floor to create soaring ceilings on the first, enhancing the café’s sense of openness and warmth. The underground floor was transformed into semi-private rooms and a serene outdoor sunken seating area, offering an oasis in the bustling city. 

The design masterfully fuses Japandi and French styles, cultivating a minimalist yet tranquil ambiance. Despite the complexities of sourcing materials to reinforce the aging structure, Charrette Studio preserved the building’s original charm while ensuring its functionality for contemporary use. Through sustainable practices, including repurposing existing materials and structures, the team minimized waste and created an eco-conscious design. By prioritizing green spaces, communal warmth, and human connection, Préf has emerged as a serene haven for relaxation and socializing, where historical significance meets contemporary elegance.
