Charrette Studio, an acclaimed interior design firm based in Bangkok, Thailand, has been awarded a Luxury Lifestyle Awards for Best Luxury Café Interior Design for their transformative work on Préf, a café in the heart of Bangkok. This award proves Charrette Studio’s dedication to creating captivating, functional spaces that combine elegance and sustainability with deep respect for history and culture. 

Founded by Mr. Voravich Rajadhananti and Ms. Sukwasa Preeyachot, and directed by Ms. Dollaporn Pongsumran and Mr. Natapon Komnuan, Charrette Studio has become a beacon of innovative design across Asia. Their recent success with Préf, a renovation project steeped in history and sustainability, highlights the studio’s ability to merge the past and present with striking originality. 

Préf, located in Bangkok’s Sathorn district, is a beautifully renovated two-story house dating back to the early 20th century, originally built during the reign of King Rama V. Once a meeting point for the Free Thai Movement during World War II, the house carries historical significance. Charrette Studio took on the challenge of preserving this heritage while modernizing the space. The renovation, which began in June 2022 and was completed in August 2023, involved removing the second floor to create higher ceilings on the first floor, enhancing the openness and warmth of the space. The underground floor was also reimagined, with sections converted into semi-private rooms and an outdoor sunken seating area, offering a peaceful retreat in the bustling city. 

The design embraced a fusion of Japandi and French styles, creating a tranquil and minimalist atmosphere. Despite challenges with sourcing materials to reinforce the aging structure, Charrette Studio successfully preserved the original charm while making the space functional for modern needs. The team incorporated sustainable initiatives, repurposing existing structures and materials to minimize waste and create an environmentally conscious design. By focusing on green spaces, communal warmth, and human connection, Préf has become a serene yet dynamic environment for relaxation and socializing, morphing historical significance with contemporary design.
