When Huete Arquitectos secured the title of Best Contemporary Public Services Architecture from Luxury Lifestyle Awards for the Pabellón Municipal Sergio Scariolo in Málaga, Spain, it confirmed the studio’s role as a powerful force in modern architectural design. Completed in February 2025, this innovative sports pavilion in San Pedro de Alcántara brings together community, sustainability, and multipurpose functionality under one roof.
The project is more than a building; it’s a cornerstone for the local community, providing a space where sports, health, and education meet. It demonstrates how Huete Arquitectos continues to deliver architecture that resonates with people and place while pushing forward contemporary design standards.
At the heart of the project lies versatility. The Pabellón Municipal Sergio Scariolo, with a total built area of 4,300.26 m², was designed to serve as a multipurpose hub. Its main court accommodates configurations for basketball, handball, futsal, and volleyball, with space for up to 759 spectators. Complementing the sports facilities are four group changing rooms, collective and referee changing areas, a medical room, and a dedicated gym.
The pavilion also features a subdivisible multipurpose room, which can be transformed into three classrooms, ensuring the building serves both educational and training functions. This adaptability positions the facility as a benchmark in San Pedro de Alcántara, capable of hosting a wide range of events, from local competitions to community activities.

The pavilion occupies a previously vacant plot earmarked for sports facilities in San Pedro de Alcántara’s expanding urban district. Rather than imposing itself, the building integrates with the surrounding landscape and city grid, offering a fluid transition between the neighborhood and the new public space.
By activating an unused site, the project strengthens the urban fabric and provides a social anchor point where residents can gather, train, compete, and connect. Its architectural language communicates modernity while maintaining a balance with the wider community environment.
Founded by Fernando Gómez Huete and Gustavo Gómez Huete, Huete Arquitectos has a reputation of more than 20 years for projects that merge functionality with expressive design. The studio is not limited to one typology; its portfolio spans luxury villas, commercial developments, educational facilities, parks, and public infrastructure. Each project reflects the team’s philosophy: architecture as a living process that both shapes and is shaped by its users.
Collaboration stands at the core of the studio’s ethos. A multidisciplinary team of architects and engineers contributes not only technical expertise but also cultural and creative sensitivity. This collective approach has allowed the studio to operate across diverse geographies, with completed projects in Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Equatorial Guinea, and beyond.

While grounded in Spain, the studio’s vision extends across borders. Its international presence includes projects in Fuerteventura, Ibiza, Mallorca, Madrid, Sevilla, Cape Verde, Algeria, and the United Kingdom. This global outlook is paired with a sensitivity to local identity and function, ensuring each project respects its setting while embracing forward-thinking design.
The Pabellón Municipal Sergio Scariolo is a clear demonstration of this duality. It serves as a public facility rooted in Marbella’s needs, while also embodying universal architectural values: versatility, sustainability, and user-centered design.

The recognition from Luxury Lifestyle Awards adds to a growing list of distinctions and reflects the studio’s influence on the international stage. Yet, what
sets Huete Arquitectos apart is its consistent focus on projects with social and cultural weight. Whether creating sports pavilions, educational centers, or urban public spaces, the studio prioritizes the interaction between people and architecture.
Its projects are not conceived as static objects but as living environments, spaces that invite activity, interaction, and community life. This human-centered approach ensures that the architecture remains relevant long after construction.

As Huete Arquitectos moves forward, the studio is prepared to bring its expertise to more global projects. Its infrastructure supports international collaboration without restrictions, opening opportunities for cross-cultural design exchanges. With an increasing demand for sustainable, adaptable, and socially impactful architecture, the firm is well-positioned to continue shaping spaces that matter.
