Exclusive Interview: Peter Tichy on Leading Radisson Blu Mosi-Oa-Tunya into a New Era of Luxury

With more than three decades of international hospitality experience across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, Mr. Peter Tichy steps into his new role as General Manager of Radisson Blu Mosi-Oa-Tunya Livingstone Resort, one of Zambia’s most celebrated luxury destinations and a proud Luxury Lifestyle Awards winner in the TOP 100 Hotels & Resorts of the World 2025.

His career with the Radisson Hotel Group spans landmark openings and transformative leadership assignments, from Vietnam to Thailand and Nigeria. Today, he brings that wealth of operational expertise, cultural intelligence, and strategic insight to a resort uniquely positioned within Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park, just moments from the majestic Victoria Falls.

In this exclusive conversation with Alexander Chetchikov, President of the World Luxury Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Tichy reflects on his global journey, his leadership philosophy, and his vision for shaping a new chapter of luxury hospitality in Southern Africa.

Alexander Chetchikov: With more than 30 years of international hospitality experience, what drew you to Radisson Blu Mosi-Oa-Tunya Livingstone Resort at this stage of your career?

Mr. Peter Tichy (PT): After more than three decades in hospitality, I am at a point in my career where purpose, legacy, and impact matter as much as operational excellence. Radisson Blu Mosi-Oa-Tunya Livingstone Resort represents a rare convergence of all three. The opportunity to lead a flagship property in such an iconic destination set within a national park and just minutes from Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World was incredibly compelling. This role allows me to apply my global experience to a destination that is both culturally rich and full of potential, while contributing meaningfully to Zambia’s tourism growth.

AC: Your career spans Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. How has this global exposure shaped the leadership style you bring to Zambia’s most iconic resort?

PT: Working across diverse regions has taught me the importance of adaptability, cultural sensitivity, and people-centric leadership. Each market has its own nuances, but excellence in hospitality is universal. I believe in empowering teams, fostering open communication, and leading with empathy while maintaining clear standards. In Livingstone, this translates into nurturing local talent, blending international best practices with authentic Zambian warmth, and creating a service culture that is both professional and genuinely heartfelt.

AC: The resort is located within Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park and close to Victoria Falls. How do you plan to enhance the guest experience in such an extraordinary natural setting?

PT: Our natural surroundings are our greatest asset. My focus is on deepening guests’ connection to the destination, whether through curated nature-led experiences, storytelling, wellness offerings inspired by the environment, or seamless access to iconic attractions like Victoria Falls. At the same time, we must preserve the integrity of the park. Enhancing the guest experience here means delivering luxury that feels harmonious with nature, not imposed upon it.

AC: Having led post-pandemic recovery efforts in Bangkok, what key learnings will you carry forward to this new role?

PT: The post-pandemic period reinforced the importance of resilience, agility, and trust both with guests and teams. Clear communication, flexibility in operations, and an uncompromising focus on health, safety, and service quality were critical. Most importantly, it highlighted how essential our people are. I bring forward a strong emphasis on staff engagement, training, and well-being, knowing that motivated teams are the foundation of sustainable success.

AC: Radisson Blu Mosi-Oa-Tunya Livingstone Resort has been named among the TOP 100 Hotels & Resorts of 2025. In your view, what distinguishes the property on a global level?

PT: What truly sets this resort apart is its unique sense of place. Few properties in the world can offer luxury accommodation within a national park, overlooking the Zambezi River, and so close to a global natural wonder. Combined with Radisson Blu’s design-led approach, high service standards, and warm African hospitality, the resort delivers an experience that is both distinctive and memorable. This recognition reflects the dedication of the team and the strength of the product.

AC: Sustainability is increasingly important for luxury travellers. How is the resort integrating responsible practices while maintaining world-class hospitality?

PT: Sustainability is not an add-on, it is integral to modern luxury. At Radisson Blu Mosi-Oa-Tunya, we are committed to responsible sourcing, energy and water efficiency, waste reduction, and conservation awareness, all while supporting local communities. The key is balance: ensuring that sustainable practices enhance, rather than compromise, the guest experience. Today’s luxury traveller values authenticity, responsibility, and purpose, and we aim to deliver all three seamlessly.

AC: You have opened and managed several major Radisson Blu properties across different continents. What unique opportunities do you see emerging in Livingstone’s leisure and business markets?

PT: Livingstone is uniquely positioned as both a leisure and meetings destination. On the leisure side, there is growing demand for experiential travel, adventure, wellness, and high-end nature escapes. On the business side, Livingstone offers a compelling alternative to traditional city conference hubs, combining modern meeting facilities with unforgettable destination experiences. The resort can play a key role in positioning Livingstone as a premier MICE and incentive destination in Southern Africa.

AC: As you begin this new chapter, what is your long-term vision for elevating the resort’s position within Southern Africa’s luxury travel landscape?

PT: My long-term vision is to firmly establish Radisson Blu Mosi-Oa-Tunya Livingstone Resort as a benchmark for luxury, sustainability, and service excellence in Southern Africa. This means continuous investment in our people, innovation in guest experiences, strong community partnerships, and maintaining the highest operational standards. Ultimately, I want the resort to be known not only as a beautiful place to stay, but as an experience that defines Livingstone and inspires guests to return again and again.

A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Peter Tichy for sharing his insights and for offering a deeper look into the thoughtful luxury that defines Radisson Blu Mosi-Oa-Tunya Livingstone Resort, reinforcing its commitment to innovation, elevated guest experiences, and global hospitality standards.
