Mount Gay Rum

It is at the northern tip of Barbados, in the St. Lucy parish, that the Mount Gay distillery was founded more than 320 years ago. There, an unassuming stone shed conceals the heart of Mount Gay—a deep artesian well dug by the brand’s founders and still in use today. This well, the lifeblood of Mount Gay, draws up Barbadian water from coral caverns, providing a level of purity and smoothness unmatched by any other rum. Closed fermentation for column distillation employs a proprietary strain of heirloom yeast, meticulously developed over centuries. Meanwhile, open-air fermentation for pot still distillation exposes molasses and water to the Bajan atmosphere, allowing native yeasts carried by the breezes to contribute to the rum’s unique aromatic profile.
