Founded in Egypt and shaped by a deep respect for cultural expression, Maqam is a contemporary design brand where heritage and modern living intersect with clarity and purpose. In 2025, Maqam was internationally recognized as one of Luxury Lifestyle Awards’ TOP 100 Furniture & Homeware Partners of the World, affirming its growing influence within the global design landscape.

Maqam was established between 2014 and 2015 by architect and Chief Design Officer Nouran Khedr, alongside Co-Founder and CEO Haitham Fawzy. Educated in Architecture and Environmental Design, Nouran envisioned a brand that could translate cultural memory into functional objects, designs that go beyond form to carry meaning, story, and identity. From the outset, Maqam was conceived not as a trend-driven studio, but as a platform for thoughtful design rooted in place and craftsmanship.

At the core of Maqam’s philosophy is the idea of dialogue: between past and present, tradition and innovation. Rather than reproducing historical motifs, the brand reimagines them through contemporary proportions, clean lines, and refined detailing. Natural materials, wood, brass, copper, and nacre, are central to this approach, chosen for their tactile richness and ability to age with grace. Each piece is handcrafted in Egypt by skilled artisans, preserving techniques passed down through generations while adapting them to modern lifestyles.

Maqam’s collections span furniture for living, dining, and bedroom spaces, as well as lighting and decorative elements. The design language is calm and balanced, with subtle references to regional patterns and forms. Articulated chairs and armchairs exemplify the brand’s focus on ergonomic comfort paired with sculptural elegance, while dining tables and consoles often feature brass or nacre accents that elevate everyday use into expressive design.

Beyond individual pieces, Maqam has contributed to complete interior projects, collaborating closely with clients to create cohesive environments. A notable example includes a fully designed apartment in New Giza, where furniture and spatial planning were developed as one unified vision.

Maqam stands out for its ability to transform cultural heritage into contemporary relevance. Its work resonates with a global audience seeking authenticity, longevity, and narrative in design. As Maqam continues to grow, it remains committed to workmanship, material integrity, and meaningful creation, inviting people to inhabit spaces that reflect both who they are and where they come from.
