With a core philosophy of placing architecture in service of the planet, the studio creates spaces that nurture social regeneration and environmental balance. Blending sustainability, innovation, and exceptional design, Lucila Aguilar Arquitectos pioneers a new architectural language—one that is mindful, immersive, and deeply connected to nature.
A hallmark of this philosophy is The Cocoon Project, recipient of the Luxury Lifestyle Award for Best Sustainable Hotel Architecture in Mexico. Located on ECOM’s cacao farm in Chiapas’s Soconusco region, this modular, prefabricated accommodation concept reflects a commitment to ecological harmony and community impact. Inspired by the shape of cacao pods, each Cocoon is crafted from over 80% sustainable materials including bamboo, projected cork, and responsibly sourced wood. Designed for a minimal footprint, the structures preserve surrounding vegetation through a removable foundation system.
Built off-site with prefabricated precision, each Cocoon offers a customizable, high-comfort experience—featuring thermal insulation, climate control, and seamless integration with the environment. Interiors and exteriors can be tailored to climate, aesthetics, and use, allowing the design to adapt across diverse locations.
More than a luxury eco-stay, The Cocoon Project exemplifies Lucila Aguilar Arquitectos’ mission: to create regenerative architecture that fosters community well-being, biodiversity, and a deeper connection to the natural world. Its success has inspired expansion and replication in other regions, affirming the Cocoon as a scalable model for sustainable hospitality and lifestyle design.
From social integration to environmental stewardship, Lucila Aguilar Arquitectos continues to lead by example—proving that architecture can be a powerful tool for transformation, storytelling, and sustainability.
