The Hillview project involved a mid-century modern renovation of a 25-year-old residential condominium apartment, originally completed in 1999. The property’s previous interiors had become dated, with compartmentalised layouts, inefficient storage, and worn finishes that no longer suited the needs of a young family. HYJK Design transformed the space into a warm, functional, and family-friendly home, balancing modern aesthetics with practical living solutions.

The renovation preserved and integrated select existing features such as sections of the ceiling, original flooring, timber doors, and a study room partition, aligning with the client’s sustainability goals and budget considerations. Key interventions included reconfiguring the kitchen for an open-plan layout, introducing a rounded island designed for safety and accessibility, and splitting the master bedroom to create additional private sleeping quarters for the child.

Unique design features highlight HYJK’s signature approach to blending form and function. A bold rectangular arch between the living and dining areas provides additional seating and storage, while fluted glass sliding doors maintain privacy in the wet kitchen without compromising light. Curved design elements throughout the home create a gentle, welcoming flow, enhancing both aesthetics and everyday usability.
