Valamar Riviera is the largest Croatian tourism company and a recognized leader in sustainable destination development along the Adriatic coast. Its long-term strategy places environmental stewardship, community prosperity and guest experience on equal footing, embedding ESG principles across hotels, resorts and camping properties.

Climate action sits at the heart of Valamar’s commitments. In 2024, the company had reduced scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 70% compared to 2015 and ensured that 100% of its electricity consumption comes from renewable sources. Decarbonization is supported by investments in energy-efficient infrastructure, solar capacity and smart resource management. In support of a circular economy, Valamar uses bio-composters to turn food waste into compost for its landscapes, achieving a waste sorting rate of 53.2%, above the EU average, while almost eliminating single-use plastics. Water-saving and reuse systems have helped reach a low consumption intensity of just 0.59 m³ per occupied room.

Equally strong is Valamar’s focus on local communities and responsible sources. Around 78% of employees are local, 80% of suppliers operate within responsible supply chains, and 78% of all food and beverages come from local producers, strengthening regional agriculture and economies. A partnership with WWF Adria has transformed seafood sourcing, removing endangered species such as sharks, rays and swordfish from menus and supporting sustainable fishing cooperatives.
