SILHOUETTE by wonderstudio

Founded in 2016, wonderstudio is a Portugal-based architecture and interior design practice creating distinctive environments shaped by creativity, functionality, and a strong understanding of place. Working across residential, commercial, hospitality, and office projects, the studio combines imaginative design thinking with a practical design-build approach, translating ideas into carefully considered spaces from concept through completion.

With completed projects in Portugal and Switzerland, wonderstudio approaches each commission as an opportunity to create an individual architectural identity. Rather than applying a predetermined aesthetic, the practice responds to the character of the building, the needs of its occupants, and the cultural context surrounding the project. Materiality, proportion, light, circulation, and bespoke details are brought together to create interiors that are expressive while remaining highly functional.

In 2026, wonderstudio was recognized by Luxury Lifestyle Awards as the winner of Best Luxury Internal Architecture & Design in Portugal for SILHOUETTE, a residential renovation in Lisbon. The award reflects the studio’s ability to balance architectural heritage with the requirements and rhythms of contemporary living.

Located in Lisbon’s Saldanha district, SILHOUETTE transforms an apartment dating from 1942 into a sophisticated family home while preserving the qualities that define its historic character. Original decorative moldings, archways, generous ceiling heights, and herringbone timber flooring are integrated into a renewed spatial composition designed for modern family life.

The project demonstrates wonderstudio’s attention to both visual impact and everyday experience. Improved circulation and natural light are complemented by concealed storage, multifunctional furniture, sculptural lighting, and custom furnishings. Rich emerald, sapphire, and deep red tones introduce personality alongside marble, brass, solid timber, velvet, ceramics, and expressive artworks. Together, these elements create a layered interior informed by the multicultural identity of its residents.

Led by CEO Margarida Martins, wonderstudio believes successful architecture should respect the identity of its setting while responding thoughtfully to the people who inhabit it. Through this balance of heritage, culture, practicality, and personal expression, the studio creates spaces with a clear sense of character and enduring relevance.
