KYN Norway by GCR Design

GCR Design has been honoured with a Luxury Lifestyle Award for Best Contemporary Residential Interior Design for the remarkable project KYN Norway, a visionary heritage restoration initiative redefining high-end hospitality in Norway. Led by acclaimed interior designer Gunvor Catherin Røkholt, the studio continues to shape some of the country’s most exclusive accommodations, combining cultural preservation with contemporary sophistication.

The KYN Resort project, located in Stavang, is a large-scale restoration of a historic estate dating back to the Viking Age and the 17th century. Initiated in 2014 and scheduled for completion in 2026, the development is currently under construction, with more than 30% completed. The project reflects a thoughtful client brief: to revitalise the site’s cultural significance while seamlessly integrating modern comfort, sustainability, and refined hospitality standards.

GCR Design’s contribution centres on creating rich, layered interiors that honour the estate’s heritage. Through the careful use of historical textiles, traditional furniture, handcrafted details, and period-inspired wallpapers, the studio introduces warmth, texture, and authenticity. Each space is designed to reflect its natural surroundings, the spirit of the times, and the people who will inhabit it—resulting in interiors that foster peace, joy, and inspiration.

Sustainability remains integral to the project’s philosophy. Preservation of original structures, adaptive reuse of materials, local sourcing, and energy-efficient solutions align heritage conservation with responsible environmental practices.
