When Bruce Loshusan and Hans Febles first discovered The Potlatch Club during a beach walk in 2016, they uncovered far more than a forgotten beachfront retreat, they unearthed a storied legacy. Once an exclusive haven for royalty, celebrities and cultural icons, the 12-acre property had fallen into ruin by the 1980s, reclaimed by dense jungle and time. Yet Bruce and Hans saw possibility beneath the overgrowth. Drawn to its natural beauty and extraordinary past, they acquired the estate and began a meticulous seven-year restoration journey.

Their work began with reclaiming the land, clearing the jungle that had enveloped the grounds and carefully assessing each historic structure. Some buildings were lovingly revived, while others required complete reimagining. Guided by a master plan that honored the original spirit of the property, they designed new architectural elements that blended seamlessly with the landscape, removing as few mature trees as possible. The result is a resort that feels both timeless and reborn, echoing the estate’s origins dating back to 1923, when the first house was constructed on what was then a pineapple plantation.

Many of The Potlatch Club’s mid-century structures have also been restored, including the Clubhouse, The Pineapple House, now a four-bedroom villa, and Pink Sands Cottage, a romantic oceanfront retreat. Sri-Lankan architect Ray James Holman Nathanials introduced modernism to the property in the 1960s, and his influence continues to shape its contemporary design. His original hand-painted mural, preserved in the staff quarters, remains a treasured link to the past.

From its celebrity-studded heyday to Paul and Linda McCartney’s 1969 honeymoon, where Sir Paul penned early lyrics to “Bathroom Window” and “Oh Darling”, The Potlatch Club has always been a place for celebration. Today, guests are invited to revive the tradition and create meaningful moments in a setting where history, artistry, and natural beauty converge.
