Mövenpick Resort Petra Transforms Water Conservation in Luxury Hospitality

Mövenpick Resort Petra, a renowned 5-star destination at the entrance of the ancient city of Petra, has been honored with the International Sustainability Awards 2025 by Luxury Lifestyle Awards. The award recognizes the resort’s impactful water conservation initiative, a standout example of sustainability in one of the world’s driest regions.

Between 2020 and 2023, Mövenpick Petra replaced 90% of its guestroom bathtubs with water-efficient walk-in showers, significantly reducing its water consumption. The results were dramatic: usage dropped from 45 million liters in 2019 to 33 million liters by the end of 2023, marking a 25% reduction in just one year.

This achievement showcases the resort’s dedication to sustainability while maintaining the highest standards of luxury and guest experience. It also reflects the growing importance of environmental leadership in the global hospitality sector.

Alexander Chetchikov, CEO of Luxury Lifestyle Awards and President of the World Luxury Chamber of Commerce, commended the effort:
“Mövenpick Resort Petra sets a new standard for sustainable tourism. Their bold, results-driven water conservation program proves that luxury and environmental stewardship can go hand in hand. We are proud to recognize their outstanding contribution.”

The resort’s broader commitment to sustainability is reflected in its multiple certifications, including ten consecutive years of Green Globe Certification with Platinum Status, Green Key Certification, ISO 22000 Food Safety Management Certification, and Premium Safe Hotels Certification. Mövenpick Resort Petra is also actively supported by its parent company, Accor, known for promoting eco-conscious hospitality worldwide.

“Our commitment to sustainability goes beyond compliance—it drives every decision and action we take. This prestigious recognition reaffirms our unwavering responsibility to safeguard Petra’s irreplaceable natural heritage while creating exceptional, unforgettable experiences for every guest”, said Abedrabo Twaissi, Cluster General Manager of Mövenpick Resort Petra and Grand Mercure Petra – Jordan.

Looking ahead, the resort aims to further reduce water consumption by an additional 15% over the next three years, while introducing new green technologies and launching guest engagement programs around sustainability.

With 183 luxurious rooms and suites, award-winning dining, a state-of-the-art spa, and unmatched access to one of the world’s greatest archaeological sites, Mövenpick Resort Petra continues to redefine what it means to deliver world-class hospitality with purpose.
