Porsche Panamera 4S E-Hybrid, or the proof of German successful recipe

The review was made by Rhapsody Magazine

A luxurious sedan, with a strong power and sharp handling that fans of the brand expect, that’s the successful recipe when it comes about Panamera 4S E-Hybrid.

German engineers added also higher levels of performance, agility and, in this case, electric driving range. The result is a luxury sedan with refinement that delivers the driving thrills found in more extroverted rivals.

The Panamera 4S E-Hybrid works nicely as an elongated version of the venerable 911 sports car.

For 2021, the previous Sport Design Package is adopted as standard equipment for the 4S E-Hybrid, bringing a new front lower bumper and rear bumper.

A slight change to the taillights mean they now stretch from one end to the other in an unbroken light strip, making the car distinctive in such a way people are turning heads in ways that other expensive luxury sedans don’t.

When stepping inside, the Panamera 4S E-Hybrid  will impress you, for sure. The cabin materials are high-quality and everything looks businesslike, but with a sportier touch.

Despite the fact not much is truly new for this model, aside from a new steering, the interior reveals a truly premium environment, with beautiful designs, extensive use of leather and premium materials, and decent visibility over the low hood.

The multimedia system has a lot of screens, a lot of controls and a lot of options. The screen is large and mounted fairly high on the dash board. However, the climate control system, with touch-sensitive panels, are mounted nearly horizontally on the center console, making the temperature controls quite difficult to read.

The seats are comfortable front and back, but if you’re looking for a more limousine-like experience, the Panamera 4S E-Hybrid can be bought in an Executive variant.

Thanks to a twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V-6 paired to an electric motor and 17.9-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack, the Panamera has a total output of 552 horsepower, and it can go from 0-60 mph in only 3.5 seconds, when you employ launch control.

Porsche officials say you’re not losing any real speed by choosing the E-Hybrid over a conventional model, but you do gain an interesting ability: motoring in near complete silence when you want to, as the E-Hybrid comes with a couple of driving modes that conventional Panameras do not: Hybrid Auto, E-Power and a couple of charging modes.

The vehicle features an updated battery pack, improved range and the other improvements that Porsche has made to the Panamera lineup for 2021.

The beauty of the Panamera E-Hybrid is that the system doesn’t intrude on the Panamera’s fantastic behavior as a top-notch GT car, being  fantastically smooth, quiet and comfortable. The transition between electric and gasoline power is seamless, and improvements to the electronically controlled brake were made also.

So, when  you want to cruise lazily along, Panamera 4S E-Hybrid has the option to roll down the road using nothing but quiet electric power. Porsche estimates an electric-only driving range of around 50 km.

The big improvement for 2021 is in the lithium-ion battery pack that sees its energy density grow by 27%, from 14.1 kilowatt-hours to 17.9 kwh. The idea is to use the gas engine to get you close to the city  under hybrid power, use the charge hold function to preserve your battery power, then switch to electric-only mode when you’ve entered the more restrictive environment of a major city.

Plugging the Panamera into a charging station is the clasic  way to charge the battery, but it’s not your only option. In Sport and Sport Plus drive modes, the twin-turbo V-6 acts as an onboard generator, and can give a boost to the battery to 80% of a full charge. So, even if you forget to plug in, electric driving is still there for you.
