It takes first-hand experience to truly understand the environment and atmosphere of Pettah, Sri Lanka. The heat of the noon-day sun and the hustle and bustle of pedestrians followed by the mad traffic throughout the day is something to witness in this busy part of Colombo. Pettah, also considered the heart of Colombo, is a center for trade, transportation and infrastructure. To integrate these three aspects, encouraging their interaction and transit is the objective of the Pettah Integrated Transport Hub, a part of the 2030 vision for Sri Lanka by DesignOne Studio.

The concept is simple, yet incredibly valuable as an efficient centralized transport network. The Pettah Integrated Transport Hub would essentially interconnect the life of cities to major transport networks such as bus and rail, improving traffic flow and encouraging a dynamic zone that can be capitalized by businesses, vendors and pedestrians. This has the potential to create easy flow into and out of the city and increase its land value.

DesignOne Studio rethinks transport through its proposed Pettah Integrated Transport Hub. Its features would include: An elevated monorail and rail with bus station at ground level, a ferry station at water level, 45 floor Twin Tower development above the transport terminal with helicopter access to the rooftop, ample amount of parking at the basement with the ground level being free of access to public with seamless interaction of commercial space to all forms of transport.
