Mövenpick Resort Sharm El Sheikh has been recognized by the International Sustainability Awards in 2026 in Egypt for responsible hospitality through circular resource management, resource-efficient operations, biodiversity conservation, and community development. The recognition reflects an operational approach that incorporates environmental management, material reuse, responsible resource consumption, and community-focused initiatives across the resort.
Located above Naama Bay, Mövenpick Resort Sharm El Sheikh is a five-star resort overlooking the Red Sea. The property features 298 hotel rooms and four villas designed in Arabian style, together with five private beaches. The resort offers a variety of dining experiences, including authentic Indian cuisine at Rangoli, Oriental grills and Arabian mezze at El Kababgy, and seafood and barbecue dishes at the Pool Bar. Liwa, the resort’s main buffet restaurant, serves international cuisine with daily themed dining experiences.
Sustainability is integrated into the resort’s operational planning through its Sustainability Management Plan 2026–2027. Measures include monitoring electricity and water consumption, using LED lighting and energy-efficient equipment, maintaining HVAC systems, applying water-saving technologies, optimizing irrigation, and incorporating drought-tolerant vegetation. Waste is segregated at source, with materials including paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, metals, used cooking oil, batteries, toner cartridges, and electronic waste directed to licensed recycling partners. The resort also reports 12 consecutive years of Green Globe certification and holds Green Globe Platinum Certification.
Environmental priorities extend to the Red Sea ecosystem surrounding the resort. Mövenpick Resort Sharm El Sheikh promotes practices intended to reduce pollution risks and protect coral reefs and marine life, while native and climate-appropriate landscaping supports lower irrigation requirements. Its broader sustainability program also includes employee training, a dedicated Green Team, environmental objectives across departments, and ongoing monitoring of energy, water, food waste, and greenhouse gas emissions.
Community development forms another part of the resort’s approach include food donations through the Al-Amal Charity Association, cooperation with the Ministry of Health Blood Bank Center for blood donation campaigns, training opportunities for local students and graduates, promotion of Bedouin handcrafts, olive tree planting, and development of a 2.5-hectare organic farm. Future plans include expanding recycling and waste segregation, introducing paperless check-in and digital guest services, strengthening sustainable procurement, and pursuing the stated goal of eliminating single-use plastics by 2027.
