Best Tuscan Wineries: A Cantina For Every Wine Lover

This Italian region is home to some of the best and oldest wineries worldwide and since Spring is here, it seems like the best time to visit them. With Helitaly, you are just a helicopter flight away.

The wine-making business is engraved in the Tuscan people’s culture and tradition, as the several ancient wineries in the region testify. This passage of knowledge and know-how resulted in many incredible and complex wines.

You would surely have heard of Chianti, the notorious Tuscan wine par excellence, as many would say. Among the many wineries that produce Chianti, some are worth visiting, and their wines worth tasting: Antinori nel Chianti Classico of the Marquis Antinori family was built in 2012 and it is considered the number one vineyard in the world (World Best Vineyard-50 Best 2022); whereas the Ricasoli Winery has more than 900 years old.

Although quite famous throughout the world, Chianti is not the only one that deserves praise. Compared to the latter, the Brunello di Montalcino is aged for at least three years, gaining an aftertaste of black cherry, vanilla, and spices. Among the best producers are Fattoria dei Barbi and Tenuta Greppo in Montalcino, Castello Tricerchi in Val d’Orcia, and Castello Banfi in Poggio alle Mura.

The Morellino di Scansano DOCG is another signature Tuscan red wine, just younger. Produced in the Maremma, it is made with 85% Sangiovese grape, plus other black grape varieties; it is a cool wine with black fruits, marasca cherry, and plum scent. The best Morellino di Scansano is produced by Fattoria dei Barbi and by Frescobaldi.

Tenuta San Guido is the only winery that produces Bolgheri Sassicaia. Compared to the other Sangiovese-based wines, it is mainly made with French grapes like Cabernet and Sauvignon with chocolate, tobacco, leather, and sweet spices scent. Although Tenuta San Guido has exclusivity in the making of Sassicaia, the same cannot be said for Bolgheri DOC wine; Tenuta Guado al Tasso and Ornellaia, respectively owned by the Antinori and Frescobaldi, are some of the best wineries that produce it.

Embark on a helicopter flight with Helitaly and enjoy the breathtaking view of the Tuscan hills; upon landing, savor some of the region’s best wines. You can choose from several Cantine here mentioned, whose heritage and knowledge come through the work of many generations, resulting in incredible wines.
