Cocoons in Singapore is the epitome of architectural innovation. Envision a semi-detached home that appears detached or even like a trio or quartet of resort villas, each flaunting a full-suite bedroom, stacked vertically to offer panoramic vistas. These bedrooms are embraced by ‘cocoon’ balconies prioritizing comfort, privacy, and relaxation. Commissioned by a fervent car racer and leader of a Ferrari club, this residence needed to reflect his passion for Ferrari and cater to his family’s nature-centric lifestyle. The result? A home where nature thrives inside, a skylight nurtures indoor plants, and cherished Ferraris find a prideful display.

Sustainability wasn’t an afterthought. Off-form concrete was chosen as a sustainable material. The all-encompassing ‘cocoon’ is a tubular structure, enabling cantilevers without any exposed columns. Deep overhangs ensure the interior remains cool, and the abundance of natural light contributes to energy efficiency.

For the Cocoons project, Aamer Architects, a boutique design firm established in 1994, provided full architectural services. The firm, which started its journey after Aamer Taher returned from London, has since crafted myriad projects, from residential edifices to conservation shop houses, in Singapore and beyond. Their projects are akin to ‘haute architecture,’ tailor-made for every individual client.

As Mr. Taher once expressed, “I consciously wanted to break the rules… By constantly testing the boundaries, it is sometimes possible to overturn the guidelines”. This ethos is evident in the Cocoons project, a testament to Aamer Architects’ commitment to unique, boundary-pushing designs.
