Yonaguni Spa: Mysterious Luxury Experience in the Heart of Alsace

It is hard to imagine a place more suitable for the emergence of one of the world’s most beautiful and unconventional spas than Alsace. It is a unique multicultural region with its distinctive character, offering a wealth of experiences to sophisticated tourists from all over the world. With the opening of the Yonaguni Spa, the extensive list of attractions in Alsace was enriched by exciting options that are hard to find anywhere else. This small universe designed to offer a thrilling sensory experience has become this year’s winner of Luxury Lifestyle Awards in the category of The Best Luxury Spas in France.

Yonaguni Spa is an integral part of the 4-star Le Parc Hôtel Obernai, an intimate, family-owned hotel that has become an iconic establishment in the region for nearly seven decades. One of the main traits of the Kuntz family, the founders and owners of Le Parc Hôtel, has always been their selfless enthusiasm and desire to create unparalleled hospitality experiences for hotel guests. Yonaguni Spa was the most ambitious project implemented within the hotel, which attracted the most sophisticated tourists seeking a new level of sensory discoveries.

In total, it took more than four years of research and design to create Yonaguni Spa. Work began in September 2017, 40 companies were involved, and the amount of investment reached 10 million euros. The result of the hard work of a huge number of people was the appearance of an impressive spa complex, with a total construction area of 3,500 square meters. Maxime Wucher, general manager of Le Parc Hôtel Obernai and fourth generation member of the Wucher family, has embodied in this luxury spa the inspiring spirit of innovation that was a hallmark of his predecessors’ business.

Yonaguni Spa goes beyond the traditional approach to spa, offering a new kind of chic wellness destination where visitors can enjoy an experience rich in sensations. The spa itself occupies 2,500 square meters and boasts 1,700 square meters of landscaped gardens and outdoor spaces. The interior design of the spa is dominated by motifs of a peculiar journey to Asia. From the first moments at the reception, visitors find themselves in a soothing atmosphere, in which mineral and wood are gracefully blended. Most of Yonaguni Spa’s rooms and spaces offer subdued lighting, providing an intimate and relaxing feeling. The exception is the spacious Terrace pool, beautifully lit through a large bay window.

The main highlight of Yonaguni Spa can be called its aquatic areas, the total area of which is 330 square meters. Especially notable is the aquatic labyrinth, a water tunnel that takes you through water corridors, immersed rooms, more than 100 water attractions and allows you to visit 10 amazing sensory universes. Along with the great options for water treatments, the Luxury Lifestyle Awards panel complemented the avant-garde design of other spa areas – panoramic sauna, black sauna, hammam, Turkish baths, snow cave with continuously produced snow, showers, and sensory waterfalls with fragrant aromas. The relaxation area offers cocooning alcoves, a spa library, a Himalayan room with water beds, ganbanyoku (hot stone bath). Parc Hôtel Obernai residents and Yonaguni Spa guests have access to a fitness studio with exercise bikes and a boxing corner, as well as 7 suites to enjoy beauty treatments, massages, retreats, and tailor-made rituals.

There is a pond surrounded by a bamboo grove in the outdoor area of the spa. Nearby there is a Japanese tea house with a banya (Russian sauna) inside. Here you can also enjoy the outdoor infinity pool with savannah beach.

Yonaguni Spa can accommodate a maximum of 60 persons at a time, allowing each visitor to fully enjoy the space and treatments. Visitation for minors is not permitted, but families can take advantage of the Asiane Spa, another spa of Le Parc Hôtel Obernai.
