Lucas C.C. Marquenie has received a Luxury Lifestyle Awards in 2022 for Best Luxury Architecture (Single Residential Project) For Casa Malecón in Almería, Spain. Located in Garrucha, Almería, Spain, this project was started in September 2021 and is projected to be completed by January 2023. Together with Adelaida, Lucas provided architecture and project management services for this work. 

Casa Malecón is a permanent single-family house on the beach front line in the southeast of Spain, Almería. It is in the center of the town with views of the beach and the harbor. 

As there was a building on this plot before, the first project involved maintaining the existing house. The client, however, decided to start from scratch, to create his dream home. It is a four-story building, with the living room taking over 2 floors. This makes the space bigger and increases solar input. 

The project is a first-line property in front of the Mediterranean Sea in the middle of town, attached to the adjacent buildings. The intention behind the creation and design was to create a contemporary building that breathes luxury, as though it were a villa on a first-line property plot. There was a big challenge though, and this involved maintaining privacy and comfort for the inhabitants, as the haven is situated in the middle of the town.  

For this reason, the living room is on the first floor, linking the master bedroom with a void to this main area. A panoramic elevator takes you up from the ground floor where you can take in the mesmerizing views as you move between floors. The open kitchen transforms the space into a complete living area, framed by the picture window, giving views of the Mediterranean Sea.   

The main terrace leads directly to the sea, and at the same time, lets shade pour through the statement windows, preventing overheating in summer. Bioclimatic architecture is used here – this is a way of designing buildings based on the local climate, with the aim of ensuring thermal comfort using environmental resources. There is also a back terrace to find protection from the wind.  

From the master bedroom, there is a view down to the living room, but not the other way around, and this is done purposefully, to maintain privacy in the bedroom. The main bedroom enjoys a balcony with a glass floor, to give the full feeling of height over the first-floor terrace.
