Designing with a Sense of Place

For LTW Designworks, luxury interior design begins with understanding where a project belongs. Rather than imposing a recognizable house style, the international studio develops each concept through research into geography, setting, culture, and the people who will experience the space. This approach has shaped its work across hospitality and residential interiors and provides the context for its 2026 recognition by Luxury Lifestyle Awards as a winner in the Best Luxury Hospitality Interior Design Studio category in Singapore.

A Practice Built Over Decades

The studio’s history reaches back to 1980, when it operated as H.L. Lim & Associates. LTW Designworks was formed in 2001 by principal partner H.L. Lim continuing a design practice with decades of experience in the industry. Today, the studio specializes in luxury hospitality and residential interiors, with physical offices in Singapore, Beijing and Shanghai.

That international presence reflects a portfolio extending across a wide geographic range. The company reports completed projects throughout Asia, as well as work in the Middle East, Europe and Oceania. Its hospitality experience has therefore developed across different cultural and geographical settings, reinforcing an approach in which context is treated as a fundamental part of the design process.

Identity Before Signature

LTW Designworks makes a clear distinction between recognizable style and recognizable thinking. The studio does not seek to reproduce a fixed visual language from one project to the next. Instead, each brief begins with an examination of its location, cultural identity, and human context.

This philosophy allows the design narrative to emerge from the destination itself. Authenticity, craftsmanship, and longevity inform the studio’s interpretation of luxury, while technical expertise and hospitality experience support spaces intended to remain relevant beyond their initial impression. For LTW, the objective is not excess, but an interior that carries a meaningful relationship with its surroundings and the people who encounter it.

Research as a Design Foundation

In-depth research is central to the studio’s process. Geography and setting are considered alongside cultural references, enabling the design team to develop visual narratives specific to each property. This emphasis on place gives individual projects their own identity rather than positioning them as variations of a predetermined aesthetic.

The approach also supports LTW Designworks’ broader view of hospitality design as storytelling. The company describes its role as revealing the unique voice of each place through thoughtful, timeless, and culturally inspired design. In this framework, interiors become a means of expressing context while responding to the practical and experiential demands of hospitality environments.

A Considered Approach to Materials

The studio has also outlined several environmental considerations within its design approach. Where appropriate, it encourages the use of local materials to reduce carbon footprint, seeks to minimize the use of natural materials such as marble and granite, supports the use of replenishable natural wood, and considers recycling used materials where possible.

LTW Designworks also encourages the employment of local artisan craft. Depending on a project’s location and conditions, natural ventilation may also be considered. These measures demonstrate how decisions around sourcing, materiality, craft, and environmental context can form part of the wider design conversation.

Recognition Within Luxury Hospitality

The Luxury Lifestyle Awards recognition places LTW Designworks within an international framework focused on identifying and recognizing excellence across the luxury sector. For the Singapore-based studio, its 2026 winner status reflects a practice shaped by long-standing hospitality experience, international reach, and a design philosophy centered on the individual character of place.

LTW Designworks has stated that recognition offers an opportunity to communicate its design philosophy to a wider global audience, strengthen trust with clients and partners, encourage meaningful industry dialogue, and continue contributing to the evolution of hospitality design worldwide. Its perspective remains consistent: every place deserves an identity of its own, shaped by culture, context, and the people who experience it.
