Founded in 2011, KYDO is a boutique design studio composed of artists, designers, and craftsmen working across high-end residential, commercial, office, and hospitality sectors. The studio’s philosophy centers on combining narrative-driven spatial design with refined material craftsmanship, positioning each project as an exploration of atmosphere, meaning, and architectural balance. 

Rather than defining luxury through material alone, KYDO focuses on creating spaces with emotional depth and symbolic resonance. Each project is developed as a unique narrative experience, where architecture, lighting, art, and materials are carefully integrated to reflect the client’s identity and lifestyle. This approach enables interiors that are both visually distinctive and deeply personal, aligning conceptual creativity with everyday functionality.

Icarus’ Sanctuary – A Residential Narrative

The project Icarus’ Sanctuary, located in Taichung, Taiwan, represents a clear articulation of KYDO’s design philosophy. Conceived as a private apartment, the project introduces a conceptual framework described as “Classical Sci-Fi,” merging ancient architectural language with contemporary visual expression. 

The client sought to integrate an interest in space exploration within a residence that remains calm, sophisticated, and livable. KYDO responded by developing a spatial narrative inspired by mythology and futurism, allowing imaginative references to coexist with practical residential needs. The result is a composed environment where symbolic depth enhances, rather than disrupts, everyday living. 

Spatial Language and Quiet Futurism

The interior is structured through the use of classical arches, drawing from ancient Greek architectural principles to establish rhythm, symmetry, and proportion. These elements provide a sense of permanence, while contemporary lighting systems and reflective materials introduce contrast and lightness. 

This dialogue between historical reference and modern expression defines what KYDO describes as “Quiet Futurism.” The atmosphere is deliberate and restrained, avoiding visual excess while maintaining a forward-looking character. The space becomes an environment where continuity and contrast are carefully balanced, creating a refined architectural experience. 

Material Strategy and Atmospheric Depth

Material selection within Icarus’ Sanctuary reinforces its conceptual narrative. Monolithic marble surfaces evoke a sense of historical permanence, while softer materials such as velvet seating introduce tactility and comfort. A richly textured emerald rug echoes the tones of a classical landscape painting on the adjacent wall, grounding the space while contributing movement and visual depth. 

Each material element is positioned within a broader compositional strategy, ensuring continuity across the space. Rather than functioning independently, textures and forms work together to create a layered environment that supports both visual clarity and atmospheric richness. 

The Oracle as Conceptual Anchor

At the center of the living space, the Oracle installation acts as a defining visual and symbolic element. A suspended astronaut figure, framed within a reflective structure, reinterprets the myth of Icarus as a representation of curiosity and exploration. 

This installation transforms the residence into a contemplative environment, where design extends beyond function into interpretation. The interior becomes a space that invites reflection, positioning the occupant not only as a user, but as an observer within a larger conceptual narrative.
