In contemporary architecture, enduring residential design is defined by restraint, cultural awareness, and spatial intelligence. KEY Architectural Group exemplifies this philosophy through projects that emphasize proportion, environmental responsiveness, and human experience. This approach has been recognized by the Luxury Lifestyle Awards with the distinction of Best Luxury Apartment Architecture in Ghana for the project Beyond Residence – a residential development that reflects both architectural discipline and contextual awareness within Accra’s evolving urban landscape.

A Design Practice Built on Experience
KEY Architectural Group was founded in 1998 in Lebanon by lead architects Imad Fakhry and Hussein Fakhry, professionals with academic backgrounds in architecture and business management. From the outset, the firm approached architecture as a cultural and human-centered discipline rather than a purely technical process.
Over more than two decades, the practice has developed experience across diverse design and construction projects. Its services include architectural and engineering design, consultation, supervision, and project management across residential, commercial, and administrative developments. The firm later expanded its presence to Accra, Ghana, where it continues to operate, contributing to a range of projects that address the city’s growing demand for high-quality residential environments.
Throughout its evolution, the company has maintained a design-led approach characterized by precision, clarity of form, and careful attention to finishing and execution. The studio’s portfolio reflects a consistent emphasis on long-term client relationships and structured project delivery.

Beyond Residence – A Contemporary Residential Concept
Beyond Residence represents a residential development designed to offer privacy, comfort, and a strong architectural identity. Located in Ghana’s Greater Accra region, within the Airport Residential Area, the project was conceived as a high-end apartment building that responds to environmental context while delivering a distinctive residential experience.
The building structure is organized across multiple levels. A basement accommodates parking, storage areas, services, and a cinema space. The ground floor introduces the main reception area together with the lower levels of four duplex apartments. The first floor continues these duplex residences while also including shared wellness amenities such as a gym and a mini spa.
Upper residential levels introduce additional duplex apartments and loft-style units distributed across the second through fifth floors. At the top of the building, the sixth floor contains a penthouse residence featuring panoramic terraces and a private swimming pool, while the seventh floor hosts a single sky loft with its own terrace.
The outdoor environment contributes significantly to the residential character of the development. Driveways, security services, and landscaped areas surround a central swimming pool that sits within a preserved cluster of mature trees, some of which are approximately fifty years old.

Architecture Shaped by Environment
The design of Beyond Residence incorporates several architectural strategies that respond directly to the surrounding environment and the wellbeing of its residents.
A defining element of the project is the preservation of the mature trees at the site’s frontage, which were integrated into the overall design concept. Their presence influences both the visual identity of the building and the environmental conditions of the outdoor areas.
The architecture also introduces perforated concrete cantilevered slabs that function as shading devices. These elements vary according to building orientation and allow controlled daylight penetration while supporting natural ventilation within the apartments.
Green elements across balconies, terraces, and façade compositions contribute to the building’s calm residential atmosphere. Additional technical features include ventilated façade cladding and raised floor systems on terraces designed to improve environmental performance.
Mechanical and electrical strategies further support the project’s environmental objectives. These include grey water reuse for flushing systems, solar-powered water heating, LED lighting, sensor-controlled lighting in common areas, and VRV air-conditioning systems.

Comprehensive Architectural Responsibility
KEY Architectural Group led the project through its full architectural lifecycle. The firm provided architectural, interior, and landscape design alongside material selection and detailed coordination with engineering disciplines.
The scope also included project management and construction supervision, ensuring continuity between design intent and on-site implementation. This integrated approach enabled the project to maintain consistency in its architectural language, technical execution, and spatial quality.
Beyond Residence demonstrates how contemporary residential architecture can balance environmental considerations, urban context, and architectural expression within a single cohesive development.
