When you walk into the Palazzo Alma in Italy, you’re immediately struck by the grandness of the architecture. That is because the high vaulted ceilings, the age-old bricks and other classic details of this historical building come together to create a sense of being in something old but immensely significant. Soon after, however, the senses return to the moment having been caressed by the luxurious details of the hotel that ooze sophistication and prime elegance. It is this combination of the new and the old, the historical and the contemporary, that makes the work by MADE IN Studio – Arc. Carlo De Paolo on the renovation of Palazzo Alma such a triumph, showcasing the immense value of design and renovation.

MADE IN Studio’s use of a neutral base enhances the architectural details and amplifies the beauty of the materials used, creating a comfortable environment that is in a vibrant dialogue with the present while allowing you to experience the fullness of the building’s history. The building is located in the historic center of the city of Casarano, in Salento, which is an important tourist destination in Southern Italy. It was transformed into a hotel, with part that is above ground having been built circa 1800. The cellar is older.

At the revamped Palazzo Alma, there are 4 large rooms where you can immerse yourself in an atmosphere rich in history that speaks of sophistication and ancient luxury. All the various elements were made to measure by the best local artisans. This was a deliberate decision by MADE IN Studio, as the lead architect De Paolo wanted to combine the ancient techniques and tradition of the place with contemporary elements that connect the hotel to the current time. De Paolo also relies on well-selected accessories to create a rich experience overall, showcasing years of experience and deep understanding of design principles.

De Paolo founded MADE IN Studio in 2008, relying on the principles of Mood, Architectural Design, Engineering Integrated to create an acronym that would inspire the name of the studio. With this in mind,  MADE IN Studio is a place where one can follow the conceptual path of comparison and allow the integration of ideas and knowledge. At MADE IN Studio, designs are based on a continuous affirmation of the relationship between theme and ideas, while the construction of architecture becomes the object of attention and experimentation. De Paolo works mainly in Italy but boasts a global footprint having worked on projects around the world, too, mainly in the residential and hospitality categories.

 In 2022, Luxury Lifestyle Awards awarded MADE IN Studio and Arc. Carlo De Paolo the prestigious title of Best Luxury Hotel Interior Renovation in Italy. The award was given in recognition of MADE IN Studio’s exemplary work on Palazzo Alma.
