Fast-growing design studio HWCD has secured an impressive three awards in this year’s Luxury Lifestyle Awards 2021. But what set’s this design practice ahead of its peers in the competitive Southeast Asian design sector?

Their latest awards have recognised their growing prowess within the competitive and fast-paced Southeast Asia peninsula. Established in 2002, HWCD has a global presence with offices based in London, Shanghai and Barcelona. This allows them to tap into an extensive network of high-end luxury suppliers and an ability to suggest solutions for even the most challenging projects. 

Their fast-growing evolution is down to a dedicated team who are sought by some of the most demanding clientele to visualise and realise projects that define luxury while balancing practicality and longevity in design. With this in mind, it is no surprise that HWCD has seen continued success within a highly competitive market. 

This year has seen the team scoop three awards from the uncompromising Luxury Lifestyle Awards panel. This team of experts seeks perfection in design with a true emphasis on luxury spaces. The first of the HWCD’s awards are for Best Luxury Interior Design Studio in Shanghai. With a clear focus on providing an effective multinational design network, the HWCD team were acknowledged for their commitment to understanding the individuality and requirements of each client while using an immense level of expertise to bring to fruition challenging projects. The Luxury Lifestyle Awards team were also impressed by the in-depth research and development that went into understanding the interaction with end-users.  

Their second award celebrates the HWCD teams’ ability to undertake residential projects at the top end of the property markets. Completed at the end of 2020, the Wharf One LiangMa property is the epitome of a successfully marrying of elegance and luxury. Located within Beijings’ art district, the project was always going to draw on an uncompromising creative nature.

The HWCD team successfully incorporated natural texture and delicate art that unified internal space while acknowledging its artistic surroundings. The client’s requirements for quality, innovation and fashion were satiated with hand-picked highlights that not only provide talking points but help punctuate a cleverly choreographed interior. For this successful project, the Luxury Lifestyle Awards panel awarded the team the title of Best Luxury Residential Interior Design for ‘Wharf One LiangMa’ in Beijing.

The beginning of 2021 saw the completion of their third award-winning project. Awarded the Best Luxury Commercial Interior Design for ‘Whispery Savory’ in Shanghai, this boutique restaurant celebrates the best in French cuisine. The client required an interior design that reflected a simple romantic aesthetic. To achieve this, the HWCD team chose a light neutral palette that is punctuated with flashes of gold embellishment, embodying a concept of luxury and avoiding visual fatigue in what would have been a monochromatic setting.

As part of this project, the HWCD team had to incorporate a bespoke bar and cabinet display that provides a focal point within the scheme. Through clever use of light, shadows and texture, the HWCD have achieved an indulgently welcoming space that celebrates the best in hospitality design while setting the luxurious atmosphere for every guest. This project also highlights the teams’ extensive use of research and technological development in understanding user interaction. Unifying and creating a flowing but intimate space allows not only practicality but also a marriage of romantic, cocooning luxury.
