Through landmark projects such as Tierra Pacifica and Casa Big Sur, Ben continues to shape the future of luxury living by creating homes that are as environmentally conscious as they are architecturally striking.

Alexander Chetchikov: Congratulations, Ben, on Paradise Homes Costa Rica being named Best Luxury Residential Architect Studio in Costa Rica for 2026 by LLA. What does this recognition mean to you and your team?

Ben Morris: We are truly honored by this recognition. Costa Rica is a small dot on the map, so having the opportunity to share our passion and our work with the world means a great deal to us. This award reflects not only our team’s creativity but also the trust our International clients place in us to bring their dream vision to life in one of the most beautiful environments on earth.

AC: You’ve spent over 20 years living and working in Costa Rica. How has the country’s culture, environment, and “pura vida” philosophy influenced your architectural vision?

BM: Costa Rica gives us the freedom to creatively design with emotion. The environment inspires me every day; understanding the terrain, the climate, and the lifestyle only helps create a better end result for the client. “Pura Vida” is more than a slogan—it’s a way of living. To truly understand it, you have to open your heart to the Ticos.

AC: Sustainability is clearly at the heart of your work. How do you balance eco-conscious design with the expectations of high-end luxury homeowners?

BM: In a modern world, sustainability carries many meanings today. We believe true sustainability is achieved when environmental responsibility and human well-being work together. From respecting the natural terrain and thoughtfully selecting materials to creating ethical work environments that support employees and their families, sustainability becomes part of every decision. It is not only about protecting the landscape but also about building a culture of responsibility, longevity, and care for future generations. We strive to leave behind a thoughtful footprint—homes that respect the environment while also standing the test of time. Luxury should not only feel exceptional today, but continue to hold value and purpose.

AC: Your projects, such as Tierra Pacifica and Casa Big Sur, are known for their seamless integration with nature. What are the key principles you follow when designing homes within Costa Rica’s unique landscapes?

BM: Mother Nature always tells the story. Why fight her when you can work alongside her? The safest and most beautiful projects come from respecting the land and understanding its message. We are fortunate to live and build in an environment that many people dream of having—one that fosters a relationship with nature. Our role is to create architecture that enhances that connection rather than competes with it.

AC: Paradise Homes Costa Rica creates residences that feel both sophisticated and deeply connected to their surroundings. How do you approach designing spaces that evoke emotion and a sense of tranquility?

BM: Every property is different, and no two projects are ever alike. That’s what makes architecture exciting. We take the time to truly understand our clients, their vision, and how they want to experience a space, and then we transform those ideas with our touch. Our goal and legacy are to create homes that evoke emotion every time someone walks through their place. As architects and builders, we have the privilege of creating those spaces.

AC: The Hailey Residence is a remarkable showcase of contemporary tropical architecture. Could you share the inspiration behind the project and some of its standout design features?

BM: The inspiration behind The Hailey Residence came directly from the terrain itself. With a waterfall tucked behind the property, the iconic Whale’s Tail formation stretching out in front, and dense jungle with protected wildlife reserves surrounding it, the vision was to create a residence that connects with the wildlife and the surroundings. We wanted the pool to appear as though it were floating above the jungle, pushing engineering to the limit to create that sense of flotation above nature. Our clients deeply appreciated the creativity and architectural direction behind many of our contemporary homes, giving us the freedom to explore bold ideas and trust the process. That collaboration allowed us to create a truly remarkable piece of architecture, one designed to stand as a magazine-worthy statement within the tropical landscapes of Costa Rica.

AC: Luxury homeowners today are increasingly seeking wellness-focused living environments. How do you see architecture contributing to wellbeing, lifestyle, and everyday experiences?

BM: Costa Rica naturally promotes wellness simply through its fresh air, climate, and connection to nature. Architecture should enhance that experience by allowing homes to breathe and feel open to the outdoors. When a home is designed properly, you feel surrounded by nature rather than separated from it. Beyond aesthetics, scale, airflow, shades, and climate management are incredibly important in tropical living. Our experience allows us to guide clients toward solutions that not only look beautiful, but truly improve everyday life.

AC: Looking to the future, what exciting projects or trends do you believe will shape the future of luxury residential architecture in Costa Rica and beyond?

BM: We are incredibly excited about the future of architecture in Costa Rica. Design continues to evolve, and we are eager to push creativity while showcasing the strengths and experience that define our work. Truly exceptional tropical properties are becoming limited very quickly, which makes the opportunity to create something meaningful within these environments even more special. Today, luxury is no longer defined only by scale or materials, but by the ability to live immersed within nature while respecting the wildlife. Every project comes with its own level of complexity, and that challenge drives innovation and creativity. More clients today recognize the value of thoughtful architecture, intentional design, and proper execution. Creating a timeless home in these unique environments requires vision, experience, and attention to detail at every level.
