Ferdy and Sofie Tan’s dynamic partnership heads up Axial Studio and has firmly made a mark on the Indonesian marketplace since its inception in 2016. The pair lead the way in Indonesia’s architecture and design world with their passion for creating innovative and exciting designs. Having both graduated with bachelor’s degrees in architecture in 2008 and 2007, they spent time building up extensive experience working with several other design consultants before establishing the Tangerang-based Axial Studio in 2016. 

The multi-disciplinary practice is responsible for working on various commercial, residential, and hospitality projects, specializing in architecture, interior design, and other related design disciplines. The team believes that excellent design inspiration is conceived from the mind and the heart working together to produce exciting designs that provide unique solutions for every client. They specialize in developing modern architecture that fits with the tropical environment it sits in while also taking every client’s need and want into close consideration.  

This year Axial Studio has been notably recognized for its work on The Alia, which perfectly demonstrates the company’s commitment to creating an exceptional, tailor-made design. This private family residence south of Bali near Sunset Road was the first building constructed on 2,500 square meters of land as part of two buildings, the main house, and a private clubhouse. With plenty of space to fulfill the needs of all the family members, the challenge of the design was to create spaces that cleverly intersect with each other. 

The house was situated on the left of the site with an entrance constructed using mainly semi-transparent materials, which creates a feeling of privacy while allowing light to flood into the foyer. The clever use of wood, stone, and breeze blocks delivers a unique tropical style for modern living. The property is divided into three zones for convenience, with the service and private areas connected by the public area. The living and pool area is in the middle of the site, connecting all the spaces both spatially and visually. The concept focused on the pool area as the main attraction, with the sitting area located next to it. Two-bedroom suites are situated on the first floor. One of the bedrooms faces the swimming pool while the other has a view of the beautiful private garden.  

This dedicated, personalized approach to architecture and design is very much at the heart of the approach taken by Axial Studio in its quest to create a memorable design with maximum functionality. It is clearly illustrated in the private family home that is The Alia, which is why the panel of expert judges at Luxury Lifestyle Awards has recognized Axial Studio with an award in the category of Best Luxury Villa Architecture 2022 for The Alia in Indonesia. A well-deserved accolade for a company setting new standards in the Indonesian property market with innovative developments across various sectors and diverse projects.
