Luxury Lifestyle Awards: Could you share the inspiration behind your iconic fragrance, Shell Beach, and how it marked the beginning of Juliette Dubois Couture and Perfumes’ fragrant journey?
JD: Drawing inspiration from my 10 years spent in St Barth, Shell Beach embodies the energy I derived from the captivating shells dotting the shoreline. For me, it’s a symphony of Hesperides notes, featuring grapefruits, citrus bergamot, which I find irresistibly invigorating. The delicate dance of orange blossom and white musk adds an addictive allure to this fragrance.
LLA: Your brand seamlessly blends Caribbean allure with French luxury, evident in the July of St Barth collection. How do you infuse these cultural influences into the olfactory tapestry of your perfumes?
JD: Since its inception in 1989, my brand has been a fusion of positivity and creativity. I draw inspiration from the elegance of French and American styles intertwined with the exotic charm of the Caribbean. This blend permeates both my perfumes and fashion creations, creating a unique sensory experience.
LLA: The Les Exclusifs collection serves as a testament to your values, emotions, and life story. Can you elaborate on the inspirations and personal elements that have shaped these perfumes?
JD: My Les Exclusifs collection represents the epitome of artistry in perfumery, each fragrance a labor of love requiring a year of meticulous work. From the luxurious packaging featuring innovative materials like xamac caps adorned with pearls and shells to the meticulously curated ingredients, these perfumes embody the essence of haute perfumery.
LLA: Mirifica Perfume, with its captivating blend of Leather Oud and cistus honey, garnered attention upon its release in 2018. What motivated you to collaborate on this fragrance, and how does it complement the brand’s narrative?
JD: Mirifica Perfume stands as a testament to the remarkable duality of strength and sweetness, encapsulated in the harmonious blend of oud and leather. It celebrates individuality and showcases the multifaceted nature of those who wear it, making it a truly remarkable addition to our fragrance lineup.
LLA: Joie Eternelle Perfume, a collaborative creation with perfumer Nathalie Feisthauer, was introduced in 2019. Could you shed light on the creative process behind this fragrance and its significance within your olfactory repertoire?
JD: Crafted amidst the enchanting ambiance of Paris Montmartre, Joie Eternelle embodies timeless elegance and femininity. Working with exquisite ingredients such as jasmine, Magnolia champaca, and fresh citrus notes, we aimed to create a perfume that exudes sophistication and joy—a vision that resonated profoundly with our audience.
LLA: Maison July of St Barth is committed to eco-conscious practices, offering certified vegan and eco-responsible perfumes. How do these principles align with the overarching ethos of your brand?
JD: Reflecting my deep appreciation for nature, our commitment to eco-conscious practices is paramount. Crafting vegan perfumes that are in harmony with the environment not only aligns with our brand’s ethos but also serves as a testament to our dedication to sustainability and responsible luxury.
LLA: Opening concept stores in picturesque locations like Grasse, Nice, and Cannes in January 2022 marks a significant milestone. How does the fusion of Fashion, Art, and Perfumes elevate the brand experience for your clientele?
JD: Our concept stores serve as immersive spaces where customers can explore the intersection of fashion, art, and perfumery. By curating unique experiences in iconic locations, we aim to create a sensory journey that transcends traditional retail, offering our clientele an unparalleled glimpse into the world of Juliette Dubois Couture and Perfumes.
LLA: As a distinguished Ambassador of Arts and Culture, how do you perceive the amalgamation of fragrance, style, and sophistication influencing the broader cultural landscape?
JD: As an advocate for the arts, I believe that fragrance, style, and sophistication serve as powerful conduits for cultural expression. By intertwining these elements, we not only enrich the cultural landscape but also foster a deeper appreciation for the intricate tapestry of human creativity and expression.
LLA: With over 200 fashion shows and numerous accolades, your brand has achieved remarkable success. How do you maintain a balance between creative endeavors and the entrepreneurial aspects of your work?
JD: Balancing creativity with entrepreneurship has been a cornerstone of my journey. While I remain deeply committed to pushing the boundaries of artistic expression through fashion and perfumery, I also recognize the importance of strategic business acumen in sustaining and expanding our brand’s reach on a global scale.
LLA: Your entrepreneurial prowess has been recognized with accolades such as the Best Women Entrepreneurs award in Indonesia. What advice would you offer to budding entrepreneurs in the fashion and fragrance industry?
JD: Having received numerous accolades throughout my career, I attribute my success to unwavering passion, audacity, and seizing opportunities. My advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is to embrace these qualities wholeheartedly, toil diligently in pursuit of their dreams, and remain open to the endless possibilities that lie ahead.
LLA: Each fragrance from Juliette Dubois Couture and Perfumes is touted as a chapter in a grand narrative. Can you offer any teasers about upcoming chapters or fragrances in the captivating story of your brand?
JD: Looking ahead to 2024/2025, we are excited to unveil new eco-conscious cosmetics from Maison July in Grasse, which have garnered acclaim across Europe. Additionally, we have two new perfumes poised for launch, accompanied by a series of captivating fashion shows spanning iconic cities such as Paris, New York, Los Angeles, Dubai, and Marrakech.
