Maison Brémond 1830 – The 19th Century Authentic Delicatessen of Provence

Maison  Brémond 1830 was established in Aix en Provence, France in the 19th century. Taken over by Olivier Baussan in 2015, it is a luxurious delicatessen store that offers its customers their choice of high-quality gastronomy. The delicatessen is part of sustainable development and dynamic ecology approach concerned with biodiversity on the Provençal lands and around the Mediterranean. The successful company has won a Luxury Lifestyle Awards in 2022, in the category of Best Luxury Delicatessen Store in Provence, France.

Grocers, merchants, and confectioners, the Brémond family set up their delicatessen on the mythical Cours Mirabeau in Aix-en-Provence in 1830. The city was then the commercial capital of Provence. People come from afar to taste the confectionery and other exceptional products that they had on offer. In 1973, the Borrellys family took over the business. The emblematic Cours Mirabeau boutique moved to rue d’Italie in 1986, where it is still located today.

Maison Brémond was then taken over in 2015 by Olivier Baussan, where a new story began – that of a delicatessen committed to promoting Provençal and Mediterranean know-how, with the selection of local products, authentic, exceptional, and with unique tastes. Today, Maison Brémond 1830 works alongside artisan-producers who have been rigorously selected for the quality, traceability, and authenticity of their savoir-faire. Since the first shop was opened in 1830 in Aix-en-Provence, there are now 19 Maison Brémond 1830 shops in France and 16 worldwide, plus 200 retailers and an e-shop that offers the whole range of exceptional savory and sweet products.

Olivier Baussan is the founder of L’Occitane en Provence, Oliviers & Co and the Ecomusée de l’Olivier. He is the president of associations involved in the safeguarding of plant heritage, the revival of a rural economy respectful of a living land, sustainable development, animal welfare, biodiversity and agroforestry. Maison Bremond’s philosophy is to share a selection of products grown on living land, respect animal welfare, restore agricultural areas, support committed farmers, follow seasonal products by listening to the advice of elders, to make and share with them the traditions by tasting good and healthy products.

Maison Brémond 1830 delicatessens are genuine Provencal showcases and offer a wide choice of extra virgin olive oils, vinegars & balsamic vinegars, condiments, terrines, spices, sweet and savory spreads, truffles, salty and sweet groceries, organic groceries, natural cosmetics, kitchen accessories and of course traditional Provencal confectionery where you can find the lifestyle, flavors, scents and the welcome of Provence. They also have gourmet gift boxes available for purchase.

Maison Brémond 1830 works in collaboration with a number of local associations to recreate the link with the sometimes-forgotten traditional crops which are so representative of the Provencal terroir. A commitment to biodiversity and local farming and also to preserving the authentic products and flavors which are so important for the delicatessen trade.

Maison Brémond 1830 are partners of the Act For Planet association, which stands to promote planting in agroforestry, fight against global warming and soil erosion and promote a return to biodiversity. They are a partner of the League for the Protection of Birds (LPO) of the southern region – through the “Protect and enhance biodiversity” project, Maison Brémond is committed to supporting actions to protect the Little Owl of Athena and the Southern Shrike, two species in decline in Provence.

Maison Brémond 1830 are leaders ofthe France Pistache union, which works with nurseries, farmers, and processors to promote initiatives and techniques to allow the pistachio’s reintroduction within their territory. Present from Roman times until the beginning of the 19th century, the pistachio had almost disappeared from Provence. The delicatessen also supports the Provence Lavender Safeguard Fund by offering solidarity products such as the Lavender Cushion or the Provence Lavender Rope Soap.

On a daily basis, Maison Brémond pursues the vocation that they’ve had since the company’s inception –  to satisfy the palates of connoisseurs and defend a vision of gastronomy from the South, in all authenticity.
