Since its inception in 1843 by the visionary non-conformist Joseph Krug in Reims, France, the House of Krug has upheld an uncompromising philosophy that has set it apart in the realm of Champagne.
Joseph Krug’s dream was simple yet audacious – to craft the very best Champagne possible every single year, irrespective of the annual variations in climate. Recognizing that the true essence of Champagne is pleasure itself, he embarked on a journey to redefine Champagne-making. His groundbreaking approach involved paying meticulous attention to the character of the vineyards, respecting the individuality of each plot and its wine, and amassing an extensive library of reserve wines from various years. This allowed him to fulfill his dream and establish a House where every Champagne is of the same level of distinction.
Six generations of the Krug family have dedicated themselves to preserving Joseph Krug’s visionary legacy. They have enriched his vision and savoir-faire, ensuring that the House of Krug continues to set the standard for excellence in the world of Champagne.
The House of Krug has a truly unique approach to Champagne creation. Each year, they recreate Joseph Krug’s dream with a new Édition of Krug Grande Cuvée, a masterpiece known for its contrast and texture, characterized by its fullness of flavors and aromas. Krug’s cellar master, Julie Cavil, leads the meticulous process. They consider the personalities of around 400 wines, each embodying the individuality of a unique plot. This approach pays homage to the diversity of Champagne, its terroirs, and plots. Even the smallest variations in soil and climate can result in distinct expressions of Champagne, and Krug celebrates this diversity with every sip.
At Krug, crafting Champagne is not just a tradition; it’s an ongoing pursuit of excellence, a celebration of diversity, and a dedication to creating the most complete sensorial experience that Champagne can offer. The House of Krug continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in the world of Champagne, all while honoring the visionary spirit of Joseph Krug.
