The Tarahina tree is one of 47 endemic plant species to Rekohu | Chatham Islands. Scientists originally thought the Tarahina tree to be extinct, until it was found growing here in abundance. The Tarahina tree is harvested by some of the world’s only disease-free bees, making our Honey one of the rarest honeys in the world. Its flavor and quality has earned numerous awards.

Located 800 kilometers east of New Zealand. Rekohu | Chatham Islands houses what are believed to be earth’s last known Black British honeybee for over 200 years. Later introducing disease-free and parasite-free Italian honeybees (Apis mellifera ligustica) – from Aotearoa | New Zealand during the late 60s and 70s

To Bee Or Not To Bee – Our plan is to build up healthy bee stock. We have the ability to breed pure, healthy queens and strong honeybee colonials, then introduce these beneficial bees to other suitable parts of our Island. Including the provision of livelihood opportunities and increase apicultural productivity within our local community.
