Satu Heikkilä was born in Hämeenlinna, Finland in 1980. For Satu, art has always been a way to express herself. She was 9 years old when a local artist introduced the world of painting to her and she hasn’t stopped painting since. She discovered her love for liquid art in 2019.
In 2020 she furthered expanded on her knowledge in resin art and it quickly became her preferred medium of her professional work.
Working with epoxy resin is similar to attempting to control chaos. The painting you see is the result of many layers of chemical reactions, each moving at their own rate to a final form. Heat, cold, gravity, and viscosity are used as artistic tools to control the flow of resin. Moving the resin is done with the help of needles, heat gun, propane torch and additional other tools.
Lines, layers, and textures create smooth facades, exchanging surface beauty for depth, personality, strength, and wisdom. It takes about two to three weeks to complete each piece. She usually works on canvas or wood board depending on the desired effect.
Her works have been exhibited in Finland, Italy and United States, and her paintings can be found in private collections in Europe and USA. She works primarily in resin and alcohol inks and she is currently living and working in Elimäki, Finland.
