Luxury Lifestyle Awards: Could you share the story of how Living Luxe Magazine came into existence? What inspired you to venture into the world of luxury media?

Jennifer Lipkowitz: Having spent a decade in the publishing industry, I couldn’t ignore how much I missed it after I left. It was then that my partner and I decided to embark on a new venture, launching a luxury publication with a fresh perspective. Our vision was to delve into the realms of interior design, architecture, and lifestyle, taking it to a whole new level compared to my previous endeavors.

LLA: Living Luxe Magazine has been recognized as the Best Luxury Media in Canada. What does this accolade mean to you personally and to the magazine as a whole?

Jennifer: As a team, we’ve put in a tremendous amount of effort to achieve this recognition. We’ve successfully established our brand in Canada, and this accomplishment is a testament to the strong partnerships we’ve cultivated with our clients and collaborators. We’ve done things in a unique way to marry home design and lifestyle, and incorporated them because of the synergies between them.

LLA: In the ever-evolving landscape of luxury media, what strategies have you employed to keep Living Luxe Magazine at the forefront?

Jennifer: We’ve enhanced our digital strategies since the pandemic. We are highly active on social media platforms because it’s a meaningful way to engage with our readers, clients, and design aficionados. We’ve created this remarkable, unifying platform, and that has been pivotal for us.

LLA: How do you define “luxury” in the context of Living Luxe Magazine, and how has this definition evolved since the magazine’s inception?

Jennifer: Everyone’s definition of luxury is unique and is based on their individual perception of what luxury means to them. We all hold distinct core values when it comes to what luxury signifies in our lives. As a brand, we define luxury as encompassing beautiful and elegant environments, characterized by cleanliness and modernity. Having said that, our magazine serves as a platform to showcase the work of various designers, spanning from traditional to transitional to modern, as we aim to present the diverse spectrum of offerings in the marketplace. The essence of luxury is, after all, a highly individualized experience.

LLA: Living Luxe Magazine is known for its ability to capture the essence of luxury. Can you share some insights into how you curate content that resonates with your readers and encapsulates the luxurious lifestyle?

Jennifer: We want to show various elements of design: jewelry, fashion, interior design, architecture, landscape. We have brand guidelines that we have adhered to since our inception. And we keep to those guidelines to maintain a consistent flow and uniformity in our magazine.

LLA: Living Luxe has transcended its origins as a mere publication. Could you enlighten us further on the magazine’s transformation into a flourishing media group and its ventures into orchestrating opulent events?

Jennifer: We initiated our journey as a print publication and subsequently made strides in the digital realm. Our presence flourished across various social media platforms, paving the way for a larger audience. The impetus behind our event hosting endeavors was a deep-rooted desire for in-person connections and the formation of meaningful relationships. The onset of the Covid-19 pandemic only underscored the importance of this need. An exemplary instance of our commitment to the community is our event in support of the SickKids Foundation, reflecting our aspiration to contribute back to society.

LLA: The magazine has featured influential personalities. How do you go about selecting individuals who align with the magazine’s vision of luxury, and what impact do these features have on your readership?

Jennifer: I’ve been doing this for a long time. Choosing the right covers is about brand alignment for us. We discuss it as a team.

LLA: Can you share some of the challenges you’ve faced in launching and maintaining a glamorous publication like Living Luxe, and how have you overcome them?

Jennifer: We had to pivot significantly towards digital platforms. Leveraging our presence on social media has provided us with an additional avenue to connect with our audience.

LLA: Living Luxe Magazine has also ventured into philanthropy with events like City Couture for SickKids. Could you tell us more about your philanthropic endeavors and their significance to the magazine’s mission?

Jennifer: Every year, Living Luxe hosts its own SickKids events. As a publisher and citizen of Canada, I have an obligation to give back. It’s important to support charities that resonate with you. SickKids resonates with me because I am a mother of two, and SickKids helps children locally in Ontario and worldwide to get lifesaving treatments. It’s important that our team comes together to help this charity. Living Luxe also helps other charities, including CANFAR (the Canadian Foundation for Aids Research) and BOOST Child and Youth Advocacy Centre, among others.

LLA: Looking ahead, what can readers and followers of Living Luxe Magazine expect in terms of future initiatives, features, and developments?

Jennifer: Check our Instagram next month for a big announcement. We will open submissions for our inaugural Living Luxe Design Awards in Canada. Be on the lookout because you won’t want to miss it. After the awards ceremony, Living Luxe will host its second annual design exhibition at the Toronto Congress Centre (April 19 – 21).

LLA: As a co-founder and a parent, how do you balance the demands of a high-profile magazine with family life?

Jennifer: My children are in school, which permits me to do my job as a publisher. That said, I have a strong core team, so when I am with my children, I can rely on my team to run each department efficiently. I am good at multi-tasking, allowing me to be efficient with my time. Being a mother is one of my biggest gifts in life, and my intention is to leave a legacy for my children that they will always remember.

LLA: What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs in the luxury media industry, based on your journey with Living Luxe Magazine?

Jennifer: Do a lot of research, due diligence, crunch your numbers, create a strong business plan and make sure that your goals align with it.
