Maisha Ward: I must say, I am absolutely elated! Our small but steadily growing team has dedicated immense time and effort to establish ourselves in Barbados’ competitive landscape. Receiving an award of this caliber is a powerful reminder of our commitment and serves as an even greater inspiration to continue pushing the boundaries of excellence.

LLA: How will winning this award impact your business and your approach to client service?

MW: My goal has always been to push the envelope, and this prestigious award will undoubtedly elevate our presence, allowing us to showcase the remarkable services we currently provide. As an adaptive and forward-thinking company, I am confident that the recognition will inspire us to innovate further, staying agile and driven to deliver even greater offerings to our discerning clients.

MW: I would attribute our general progress and winning this award to unwavering perseverance, patience, and an extraordinary level of teamwork (Especially Marium and Nikita!), all while truly listening to the needs of our clientele. We place immense value on feedback, as it’s the cornerstone of growth and improvement. Even with budget constraints, we remain committed to innovation, pushing boundaries, and exploring creative solutions that elevate our offerings.

LLA: Inspired By The Caribbean is known for its personalized approach to real estate. How do you ensure that each client’s needs are uniquely addressed throughout the process?

MW: This truly circles back to our philosophy of attentive listening and thoughtful adaptation. Each client presents unique needs and preferences, and we pride ourselves on tailoring the rental or sale process to align with their personality and requirements. This bespoke approach extends deeply into property management as well—some owners prefer a hands-on role, while others trust us to take full control. In every instance, we adjust seamlessly, ensuring an experience that feels curated and effortless.

LLA: What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in the luxury holiday home market, and how have you overcome them?

MW: As a boutique real estate firm navigating a highly competitive landscape with limited resources, we are no strangers to challenges. We’ve encountered the reality of being a smaller fish in a large pond, where larger companies have sometimes made collaboration more difficult, and clients often gravitate toward these bigger names. We’ve had to find innovative ways to stand out—all while operating on a constrained budget—and have faced situations where clients have tried to undercut our pricing. Despite these hurdles, perseverance and patience have always been my guiding principles. If you speak to anyone on my team, they’ll tell you that this mindset is at the core of everything we do, and it is what keeps us moving forward with unwavering determination.

LLA: How do you stay ahead of industry trends and ensure that your services remain top-notch and competitive?

MW: We regularly engage in brainstorming sessions and hold countless discussions on how to streamline our processes while ensuring we stand out in a competitive market. I often find myself immersed in research, constantly seeking ways to enhance our back-end operations to guarantee that our front-end client experience is seamless. Having begun my career focused on back-end systems, I have a great understanding of how vital well-crafted processes, playbooks, marketing guidelines and efficient accounting systems are in shaping a refined, cohesive organization. These foundational elements are in my opinion the pillars of success, allowing us to deliver a polished and exceptional service to our clients.

LLA: Can you describe a particularly memorable project or client experience that highlights the core values of Inspired By The Caribbean?

MW: One particularly unforgettable experience that truly embodies the essence of Inspired By The Caribbean involved assisting clients in purchasing a pre-construction first home for a client who is based in the US. She hadn’t seen the location, or even the model home but trusted me throughout. From the very beginning, I acted as their trusted representative on the ground in Barbados, ensuring that every detail of the construction and acquisition process was flawlessly executed.

What made this experience stand out was how it demonstrated our unwavering commitment to detail, honesty, and integrity—values that are the foundation of our approach. The clients deeply appreciated my responsiveness and ability to seamlessly coordinate between developers, attorneys, banks, and other critical stakeholders. Their satisfaction was unmistakable when they successfully closed on their new home, delighted with the outcome.

Moreover, our relationship extended far beyond the completion of the build. I continued to support them by helping furnish, set up, market, and manage their property for future rentals. This ongoing partnership reflects our dedication to delivering comprehensive service and ensuring our clients’ long-term success. Their glowing feedback and support went further when they referred another client to me to conduct the same process. These clients had never even been to Barbados! This entire process pinpoints the core values of Inspired By The Caribbean: exceptional service, integrity, and a heartfelt commitment to fulfilling our clients’ needs.

LLA: Looking ahead, what are your plans for the future growth and development of Inspired By The Caribbean?

MW: I have several exciting initiatives in the pipeline that I plan to bring to life within the next 2-5 years. While I aim for continuous growth, it is equally important to me that we preserve the same high level of support and guidance that we currently provide. Additionally, I aspire to become more actively engaged with the Bajan community by launching outreach programs—a long-standing idea that I am eager to put into action. And finally, I’d like to continuously allow my foundational teammates to grow in their own regard and flourish even more within the company.
