Alexander Chetchikov: Cameron, Dorothea Hotel is a beautiful celebration of history and innovation. How do you strike the perfect balance between honoring the past and embracing modern luxury trends in such a unique property?

Cameron McNeillie: Striking the perfect balance between honoring the past and embracing modern luxury trends in a historic property like the Dorothea Hotel involves a thoughtful approach in several areas:

  1. Architectural Preservation: Retain original architectural features that reflect the hotel’s history, such as moldings, windows, and facades, while incorporating modern materials and designs that complement the existing structure.
  2. Interior Design: Use a mix of stylish and contemporary furnishings. Incorporate modern luxury elements like sleek lines and high-end fabrics, while featuring art pieces that tell the story of the hotel’s heritage.
  3. Technology Integration: Introduce modern amenities, such as smart room controls and high-speed internet, without compromising the aesthetic of classic designs.
  4. Curated Experiences: Offer guests experiences that reflect the hotel’s history, such as guided tours, themed events, or partnerships with local historians, alongside upscale dining and wellness services that cater to current luxury trends.
  5. Sustainable Practices: Modern luxury often includes sustainability. Implemented eco-friendly practices and materials in the renovations and operations which appeal to contemporary values.
  6. Storytelling: Share the history of the property through art displays, informational materials, or digital media within the hotel. This engages guests and creates a sense of connection to the past.

By thoughtfully integrating these elements, Dorothea Hotel can create a unique environment that honors its heritage while offering the contemporary luxury expected by today’s travelers.
