A WIDE VARIETY OF NATURAL ENVIRONMENTS AND BREATH-TAKING LANDSCAPES
Smartphone attached to the handlebar and we set off on an E-bike or bicycle to discover the Marche in Italy, a region enclosed between the Adriatic Sea and the Apennines offering a wide variety of natural environments and breath-taking landscapes.
The smartphone is essential if you want to better enjoy the Marche region by following the geo-referenced and updated paths on the www.marcheoutdoor.it platform.
It offers 24 constant developing routes, for just over 2 thousand kilometres, involving 130 municipalities between 5 provinces. Each path has unique characteristics from a sporting, cultural, landscape, and naturalistic point of view: elements that inspired the artist Michelangelo Pistoletto to coin the concept of “Marche Rebirth”, which is the philosophy of his Third Paradise representing the cultural “rebirth”, of the economic and social area of the Marches, a territory – especially in the southernmost part – deeply wounded by the violent earthquakes of 1997 and 2016.
This philosophy inspired Lorenzo, the founder of Enjoy Bike, who together with his team, not only offers the opportunity to rent the bike that best suits your needs but also proposes guided and customizable tours to explore the charming villages and historical-cultural beauties of Marche and make the most of the experience discovering this fascinating territory.
Pesaro and Urbino: cycling in the “beautiful province”
In the Pesaro area it ranges from the medieval village of Gradara, theatre of the love story of Paolo and Francesca narrated by Dante, to the Regional Park of Monte San Bartolo, up to the gold of Pergola and the famous white truffle, and to the Cartoceto Bronzes, which are the only gilded bronze group from the Roman age in the world.
Cycling in the Pesaro area, some stops are a must: from the Abbey of Santa Croce di Fonte Avellana to Pesaro, home of Gioachino Rossini and a crossroads to reach the hinterland of Urbino, capital of the Renaissance and birthplace of Raffaello Sanzio. Continuing south, along the cycle path of the sea towards Senigallia, the Roman city of Fano, offers splendid testimonies of that era such as the Arch of Augustus.
The city of Vitruvio offers not only history and events, but also food and wine experiences and accommodations such as the B&B Il Portico, where tradition and passion blend with modernity, functionality, and elegance.
For those who wish to stay in the beautiful city of Urbino to visit Montefeltro, they can lodge at the beautiful Casale di Borgo Massano. Cà Virginia Country House Wellness, offers not only cozy rooms, a wellness center, an outdoor saltwater pool, and local cuisine, but also many services dedicated to passing bikers.
From the balcony of Monte Conero
In the province of Ancona, the promontory of the Conero Regional Natural Park is the starting point of a ring largely overlooking the sea that from Marcelli di Numana climbs towards the mountain, close to the villages of Numana and Sirolo; a path of about forty kilometers that flies over the beaches of the coast below and passes between the rows of grapes of the Rosso Conero, DOC wine produced from the vines of Montepulciano. From Monte Conero you can follow an itinerary of about one hundred kilometres that switches between sea and hills and touches Osimo, Jesi, Monte Roberto and Montecucco until the return.
This is also the area of the Frasassi Caves, in the municipality of Genga, and a well-georeferenced trail twists and turns among the Apennine slopes, in the Fabriano area, to explore the lands of Verdicchio wine and the castles of Corinaldo, Trecastelli, Morro d’Alba, and Jesi, where in 1196 Frederick II of Sweden was born. The last proposal concerns the musical-poetic itinerary in the Castelfidardo areas, known throughout the world for accordions; Loreto, famous for its Sanctuary; Recanati, homeland of the poet of “L’infinito” (The Infinity), Giacomo Leopardi, and the pleasant seaside area of Porto Recanati.
Conquering the Sibillini mountains
The Macerata area offers the coastal cycle path of Civitanova Marche from which you cycle inland crossing the suggestive via delle Abbazie – the Church of San Claudio al Chienti in Corridonia and the Abbadia di Fiastra immersed in a nature reserve – which climbs up to Macerata, continues towards Tolentino and finally descends towards the coast.
From Fermo to Ascoli Piceno
From Servigliano, a unique example of Italian urban planning for the golden section designed in 1771 by the pontifical architect Virginio Bracci, continue on to Amandola – known for its white truffle – to Montefalcone, the crossroads with other routes of the ” Big Hawk Trail Paradise” Bike Park. Continuing eastwards you reach Monte Rinaldo with the La Cuma Archaeological Area and, at that point, you can reach the coast of Porto San Giorgio or visit Fermo and cycle in the Renaissance Piazza del Popolo where you can admire the sixteenth-century Palazzo dei Priori, and the Roman cisterns from the 1st century AD, the largest in Italy with an extension of 2,200 square meters.
From here it is easy to reach the province of Ascoli: three cycle rings connect the coast of Grottammare, with the Logge and the annexed 16 km cycle path of the Riviera delle Palme and the seafront up to the upper medieval village, to live unforgettable experiences. Do not miss the tour of Ascoli Piceno, among the most beautiful medieval cities in Italy, home to excellences such as the Oliva all’Ascolana and Falerio and Rosso Piceno Superiore wines.
